Wildflowers of Kojonup

The Annual Wildflower Festival 2010

We are delighted to invite you to come and enjoy the stunning wildflower display.

Each spring, visitors flock to Kojonup's Wildflower Festival. With over 400 named species within the Shire, a stunning variety of wildflowers are put on display, including a spectacular array of orchids.

Wonderful bushwalks in the many reserves with a rich diversity of orchid species, including the red-tongued spider, mantis, clubbed spider, white spider and pink enamel. Bird lovers should keep their eyes peeled for some 80 species of native birds, including the rare crested shrike-tit, the peregrine falcon and Carnaby's black cockatoo.

Spend an idyllic indulgent getaway exploring the countryside, bushwalking or stop and smell the roses and The Kodja Place Australian Rose Maze.

The Wildflower Display at Kodja Place will be open daily from 9.00am to 5.00pm (the admission fee of $5 includes entry to Kodja Place).


Australian Bush Heritage Reserve

Travel north from Kojonup, right into Cherry Tree Pool Road, continue 11.7 kilometres on a sealed road then on to gravel, left into Mission Road.

Features

Bird lovers should keep their eyes peeled as the reserve is the habitat for some 80 species of native birds, including the rare crested shrike-tit, the peregrine falcon and Carnaby's black cockatoo.

Flora

Mostly wandoo woodland hosts open scrubland, Melaleuca thickets, herbs, heaths, sedges and orchids.

Myrtle Benn Flora & Fauna Sanctuary

Located on Tunney Road, just out of Kojonup.

Features

The Sanctuary offers wonderful walking trails, and there are birds and various small animals to be seen. Pick up a map at the car park or at the Kojonup Visitor Centre.

Flora

A rich diversity of orchid species, including the red-tongued spider, mantis, clubbed spider, white spider and pink enamel. Other flora species that abound are myrtle, cats paws, Dampiera, Lechenaultia, everlastings and parrot bush.

Farrar Dam Reserve

Leave the Visitor Centre, take an immediate right off the Albany Highway into the Boyup Brook/Kojonup Road for about eight kilometres.

Features

The Old Railway Dam is home to numerous water birds, frogs and th long necked tortoise.  Outcrops of granite offer interesting collections of mosses, lichens and flowers.


Flora

Look out for Kojonup's floral emblem - the red Lechenaultia.

Gravel areas of the Reserve are home to displays of the bright blue Lechenaultia, the white candle flowers of the Stackhousia, numerous orchids as well as four species of the brilliant orange Gastrolobium peas.
